CONGRESSIONALBRANCH PUBLICATIONS
The Government Documents Department has a comprehensive collection of Congressional
debates, committee prints, reports and documents. Congressional hearings are available
from 1965. All current Congressional publications received through the depository
program, except bills and resolutions, are in paper format. In addition, current Congressional
materials are also available via the Web by using Thomas and Congressional Universe.

LAWS, REGULATIONS AND ADMINISTRATIVE DECISIONS
The Government Publications Department collection includes the following resources:

Code of Federal Regulations (fiche 1990-present; current edition in paper)
The Department has collections of administrative decisions from agencies such as the
Federal Communications Commission, the Interstate Commerce Commission, and the National
Labor Relations Board.
The Department receives all administrative regulations. Those with general applicability
to the safety and health of the citizenry, such as regulations from the Occupational
Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Health Care Finance Agency (HFCA), and
the Social Security Administration (SSA). Each of these agencies has issued many of
their regulatory publications on compact disc; these are available for searching at
the Government Publications Department.

PRESIDENTIAL PAPERS A Compilation of the Messages and Papers of the President 1789-1897.
Public Papers of the Presidents of the United States. Includes presidential papers and messages, covering Hoover's administration and from
Truman to the present. (Papers privately published, many of which are published in
microform, are in the University Microforms Department)
Weekly Compilation of Presidential Documents, 1967-present Contains presidential addresses, appointments and nominations, communications to Congress,
Executive Orders, and press conferences.

EXECUTIVE BRANCH PUBLICATIONS
Statistics The Department has an excellent collection of statistical publications including the
areas of education, agricultural production and trade, foreign trade, labor and employment,
vital statistics, government revenue and expenditures, taxation, industry and commerce.
Many publications date from 1966 to current; others agencies publications may be more
complete.
The Department has a subscription to the American Statistics Index along with the
non-depository microfiche. The Department also has a subscription to the Statistical
Reference Index and microfiche. (Canceled for 2004 due to budget problems) This index
and fiche set complements the federal statistics by providing indexing and sources
for association, state government, and private publisher statistics.
Census of Population and Housing and the Economic Census. The Department holds the Census of Population and Housing with the exception of the
years 1910-1960. Volumes for those years are incomplete. We are actively working to
complete the collection through purchase and gifts. Holdings of the Federal Population
Schedules (the Name Census) are in the Microforms Department. Holdings of the Economic
Census are complete except for the years between 1945-1963 and an occasional missing
volume. The 1990 Census of Population and Housing is available on CD-ROM as is the
1992 Economic Census. The Department holds all the Census Tract and Block Numbering
Group maps and data for the United States for 1990. Some print from the 2000 Census
is available. However, most is online only at American Factfinder.
Foreign Relations and Policy The Department has a complete set of Foreign Relations of the U.S., the Department
of State Bulletin, United States Treaties and International Agreements and Congressional
Committee reports dealing with foreign relations. Congressional hearings dealing with
foreign policy are available from 1965.
Patents, Trademarks, and Copyrights The Department maintains only the current official Gazette and Trademark.
Standards and Specifications The Department of Defense's Specifications and Standard are located in the Department.
The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards are located in the Reference
Department.
Scientific and Technical Reports Nuclear Science Abstracts, the Energy Research Abstracts, and the Scientific and Technical
Aerospace Reports provide access to technical report literature. Online searches of
technical report literature are available through the Dialog database in the Reference
Department. Very little report literature is owned by this library. Most technical
report literature must be ordered personally from NTIS.
FBIS/JPRS Translations The Department has a complete collection of the Foreign Broadcast Information Service
Daily Reports to after that date, FBIS is available on CD but has unsatisfactory access.
Also available in the Department are the Joint Publication Research Service translations
from 1978 (Microfiche)

MAP AND GEOGRAPHY INFORMATION
Prior to 1989, the Engineering Library served as a depository for the U.S. Geological
Survey. Tennessee and the bordering states of Missouri, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama,
and Kentucky were actively selected. Complete sets of topographic quadrangles for
these states are now housed in the Department. When the Department became a regional
federal depository in 1989, topographic maps for all state began to be received. Holdings
are incomplete but growing.
The Department also receives all other maps distributed through the Depository Library
Program from agencies such as the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration. the
U.S. Forest Service, the National Park Service and the Central Intelligence Administration.
Complete sets of nautical and aeronautical charts are available.
Index maps provide the principal means of access to topographic and geologic maps.
In recent years cataloging records for each sheet map have been included in the Monthly
Catalog of U.S. Government Publications. Maps are filed geographically in the Map
Library of the Department .
The Department also receives all digital map information distributed by the Depository
Library Program. Some of these discs are housed outside the department, however, access
by patrons is guaranteed.
TENNESSEE COLLECTION The Department has been a Tennessee State Depository Library since 1978. However,
many state publications which predate that time have been added to the collection.
State publications, with the exception of periodical titles, are classified and are
included in the Library Catalog. The Department has the current Rules and Regulations of the State of Tennessee and
has access to the Tennessee Code Annotated through Academic Universe. (The print version of the Tennessee Code Annotated is located in the Reference Department.)
