ABI/Inform Business & management database providing extensive coverage, some full-text. (1971-
).
Business Dateline Indexes resources devoted to regional business trends; includes major stories on local
firms. Online articles from 1985 -.
Business Source Premier Provides full text for over 2,800 scholarly business journals.
PsycINFO 1887-Present Huge database on psychology which includes consumer behavior and psychographic analysis.
Census of Governments Includes information on finance, payrolls, taxes, and expenditures for state & local
governments.
STATISTICS
Steps to analyze geographic area using Census Tract Data:
The process starts with the Bureau of the Census American FactFinder. Locate a Census Tract by doing an "Address Search" on the right hand column of
American FactFinder homepage. Enter an address near where you wish to start your
business. Copy down the Census Tract number. You may want to get data for more than one census tract
Once you have your census tract number(s), on the left hand side (light blue bars)
of the homepage select "Topics" when it expands, click on "Dataset". Select 2010 ACS 5-year estimates.
The selections box at the upper left should have 2010 ACS 5-year estimates in it with
a read and white X at the end.
Next:
Select your geography next. Click on "Geographies"-just below the Topics bar. Another
window with a grey border will open. Inside that window select "Census Tract" on
the left, under Geographic Type. You should have census tract written in your Geography
Filters box. Next type "Shelby County Tennessee" in the box above your Geography
Filters and click "GO" in the grey box. There are 227 results below the Go Box, starting
with "All Census Tracts" within Shelby County, Tennessee. Keep looking down unitl
you see the Census Tract number(s) you want. Click on it. Click on it.
Next
The Selections box at the upper left should have 2010 ACS 5-year estimates and Census Tract #, Shelby
County, Tennessee in it.
Next:
Close the grey window by clicking the "X" at the upper right corner of the grey window.
Next:
The first 4 results, DP02 thru DP05, correspond to the Social, Economic, Characteristists
of that census tract. You can click all 4 boxes and click "View" to seem them. If
you select "View" the next window show the first profile. There are two arrows at
the upper right with Result 1 of 4 between. You can scroll through the 4 results
with the arrows.
