The following fellowships and awards are offered through the Graduate School. Additional
information may be obtained on the web or by phone at 901-678-4212.
Graduate students must be nominated by their departments or college for the following
awards:
Van Vleet Memorial Doctoral Award -- Incoming doctoral students enrolled in the designated science fields of Audiology
and Speech-Language Pathology, Biology, Chemistry, Geological Sciences, Mathematical
Sciences, Microbiology and Molecular Cell Sciences, Psychology, Biomedical Engineering,
Civil Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering
are eligible for this award and must be nominated by their respective department chair.
Provost's Predoctoral Diversity Award -- At least two departments each year will be allowed to offer the Provost's Predoctoral
Diversity Awards. The amount of the awards vary by discipline and will be renewable
for up to five years. All include a tuition scholarship. Each year departments compete
based on their record of recruiting and graduating minority students. Departments
provide a summary of their efforts, along with documentation of national under-representation
in their discipline, to the Graduate School by October 19.
Part-time Master's Fellowship--This fellowship is awarded to incoming master's students who will be taking 3-8
credit hours each semester during their first year. Students must be fully admitted
to a program by April 27th and not have been previously enrolled in that academic
discipline. Candidates are nominated by the college.
