Electronic Recycling Day 2009 A Success The May 14-16 University of Memphis e-recycling event co-hosted by Apple Computer resulted in 155 tons of electronics being dropped off for recycling, exceeding last year's amount by 45 tons. About 700 cars dropped off e-recyclables on the public day. Electronics are filled with nickel, lead and mercury, which, if sent to the landfill, can end up in the ground water. Old electronics from the U.S. also can wind up in developing countries, where workers are put in danger extracting metals and other components.
