Directed by Shaum P. Bhagat, Ph.D., the Hearing Science Laboratory (HSL) is housed in the School of Communication Sciences
and Disorders (formerly School of Communication Sciences and Disorders) at the University
of Memphis. The research conducted in the HSL is focused on examining otoacoustic
emissions measured in typical and impaired listeners. Topics investigated include
cochlear amplifier characteristics, suppression of otoacoustic emissions, and binaural
interactions. Several studies recently completed in the HSL have provided insights
into the effects of intense sounds and ototoxic drugs on otoacoustic emissions measured
in children and adults.
