HERFF COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING GRADUATE FELLOWSHIPS
DESCRIPTION: The Herff Fellowship provides financial support to outstanding graduate students in the Herff College of Engineering to sustain their studies for the MS or PhD degree. MS students are supported for 2 years and PhD students for 3 years. The annual stipend is expected to be $19,000 per academic year, including tuition and fees. Applications are reviewed by the graduate coordinators from the eligible departments within the college. Awards are granted to the most qualified applicants.
DEADLINE: Applications must be postmarked by March 27, 2009 and sent to the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies, the Herff College of Engineering, Engineering Administration 202A, The University of Memphis, Memphis, TN 38152. Decisions will be determined by April 17, 2009. (Download application).
DUTIES: Candidates must have a faculty advisor to work with prior to applying for a Fellowship. Specific duties of the student will be assigned by the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies in the College of Engineering and may include tutoring freshman engineering students in math, chemistry, or physics.
ELIGIBILITY: Eligible applicants include: Bachelors degree graduates intending to pursue graduate studies, Masters degree graduates (or candidates), and current PhD candidates from accredited engineering programs.
CRITERIA FOR AWARDING FELLOWSHIPS: The candidate must:

Be admitted to the graduate program as determined by the Graduate School;

Meet all requirements for admission into the College of Engineering;

Have a GPA of no less than 3.0;

Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills;

Demonstrate potential for success in the engineering profession;

Identify a faculty advisor for their graduate studies.
