Engineering Day 2013

On November 22, 2013 the Herff College of Engineering was flooded by almost 2000 Memphis area school 3rd – 12th grade students. They stormed the walls with their cardboard beams, rolls of duct tape, and kicker mechanisms ready to compete with the surrounding teams. Read more…

U of M Professors & Student Present Research at ASGSR Conference

Dr. Jeffrey G. Marchetta, Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Amanda Winter, Ph.D. student in Mechanical Engineering, and Firouzeh Sabri, Assistant Professor of Physics presented their research work at the 29th Annual Meeting of the American Society for Gravitational and Space Research (ASGSR).  The presentation presents a new method of simulating the evaporation of low temperature fuels, or cryogenic propellants, in a low gravity environment.  Such simulations are important in evaluating new technologies for managing cryogenic propellants in low gravity. U of M and Russian University Sign Exchange Agreement

The Intermodal Freight Transportation Institute (IFTI) hosted a delegation of 20 Russian logistics professionals as part of the International Trade Administration Special American Business Internship Training (SABIT) Program Nov. 18-20. During the program, the U of M and Volga State Academy of Water Transport signed a memorandum of agreement to hold scientific, educational and cultural exchanges. Dr. Andy Meyers, U of M Vice Provost for Research, signed the agreement on behalf of Interim President Brad Martin. Read more…

Lisa Gibson, a biomedical engineering major from Memphis, is one of three U of M students to receive the prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship for foreign study for spring 2014.  Read more about Lisa here…

Biomedical Engineering Faculty in the News!

Congratulations to the following Biomedical Engineering faculty.  Dr. Esra Roan, assistant professor, received an Early Career Investigator Award from the American Thoracic Society Foundation to aid her investigation into new medical therapies for patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Dr. Gary Bowlin, professor and Herff Chair of Excellence, received the 2013 Billy R. Martin Award for Innovation. Dr. Warren O. Haggard, professor and Herff Chair of Excellence, co-edits the book, Metal-on-Metal Bearings: A Clinical Practicum.interview.
