Celebrating the Past 50 Years. Gearing up for the Next 50!

Reaching the 50-year mark in an organization calls for celebration – not just a celebration of the longevity, but of the thousands of lives who have touched and been touched by the organization.

Fifty years ago, on February 7, 1964, the Tennessee State Board of Education approved a resolution authorizing then– Memphis State University to accept a gift from Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Herff to establish a master’s degree program in engineering science. In May 1965, the Board approved the undergraduate engineering program – and so began the Herff College of Engineering.

In the coming months, we will embark on a celebratory journey as we reflect on our rich 50-year history and look forward to our next 50 years.  On behalf of the Herff College faculty, staff and students, I invite YOU to join us on this journey!

We’ve created the Herff/50 page to keep you up-to-date with celebration news. Please share your Memphis Engineering memories with us! Update your information to make sure we can communicate with you throughout this exciting celebration and join us at the Golden Jubilee celebration on April 11, 2014 at the Memphis Botanic Garden.

Thank you,
Dean Rick Sweigard
