U of M Student Chapter of the Society for Biomaterials Wins Travel Award
The U of M biomedical engineering student club received a $1600 award from the Society
for Biomaterials (SFB) to support student travel to the World Biomaterials Congress
(WBC) in Chengdu, China, 1-5 June 2012. The WBC happens once every four years and
represents a rare opportunity for students to present and network with biomaterials
professionals from around the world. The award is given to the most outstanding student
chapters of the Society that demonstrate a consistent and on-going commitment to promoting
biomaterial careers, professional development and community activities. The U of M
student club was one of 3 chapters to receive the award. Funds were used to support
travel of Heather Doty, PhD candidate in biomedical engineering and past-president
of the National Student Section of SFB to attend the conference. Heather is currently
on a J.W. Fulbright Fellowship conducting research on bone graft materials at the
National University Hospital in Singapore.
