Dean Richard Warder Retiring

As I was sitting thinking about how to write this last piece, the children’s "So Long, Farewell," lyrics from the Sound of Music popped into my head, particularly Marta’s portion about “I hate to go and leave this pretty sight,” which was then followed by Friedrich’s “Adieu, adieu, to yieu and yieu and yieu.” I only wish that I could have personally said ‘goodbye’ to every one of our students, our faculty, our alums and the College’s friends and supporters. The Ground Water Institute Educating Memphis Residents with the WOW Mobile

Beginning in fall 2012, the Ground Water Institute is putting water education on wheels. The Water on Wheels (WOW) Mobile is an educational trailer designed to teach people about the water cycle and the role of groundwater while complementing state mandated academic standards. Read More…

U of M Student Chapter of the Society for Biomaterials Wins Travel Award

The U of M biomedical engineering student club received a $1600 award from the Society for Biomaterials (SFB) to support student travel to the World Biomaterials Congress (WBC) in Chengdu, China, 1-5 June 2012. The award is given to the most outstanding student chapters of the Society that demonstrate a consistent and on-going commitment to promoting biomaterial careers, professional development and community activities. Freight Transportation Leadership Academy: Creating a Pipeline of Future Leaders  

Eleven transportation professionals are better equipped to solve the needs and challenges of the transportation industry. In early June, the Freight Transportation Leadership Academy graduated its inaugural class. Over the last four months, these executives learned fundamental leadership skills, gained a foundation of knowledge in the four transportation modes and their connectivity and gained field experience by touring area modal facilities.  Read More…

STEM Education for Middle & High School Students

Each June, the University of Memphis engages, educates, and excites Memphis area students with two fast-paced interactive programs involving a number of activities designed to motivate and challenge participants to explore engineering. The Girls Experiencing Engineering Program (GEE) targets middle and high school aged girls. The male version of the program is called TRansportation Engineering Careers (TREC). Read More…

Stephen Mosher (BSCE, MBA ’06) was named an owner in the Ridgeland, Mississippi, office of the architecture and engineering firm Gresham, Smith and Partners.  Mosher resides in Madison, Mississippi, with his wife Caroline and their two children, Hayley and Henry.

Dr. Erno Lindner, R. Eugene Smith Professor of Biomedical Engineering, has been selected as the recipient of the 2010 Willard R. Sparks Eminent Faculty Award at the University of Memphis.
