IEEE Southeast Conference 2013

Each year hundreds of students from across the Southeast region of the United States gather and compete in several events at the Institute for Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Region 3 Southeast Conference. In addition to the competition, students have a chance to attend leadership workshops and exchange ideas with peers and professionals.

This year several University of Memphis students attended the conference. While there, the students participated in multiple competitions. The first competition was the hardware competition where students have a year to design and build a robot that solves a specific problem. The next competition was the website competition. During this competition, the students design a website for their respective branch. Finally the students participated in the graphic t-shirt design competition. In this competition, the students design a graphic for a t-shirt and submit that t-shirt with the design on it. This year, the U o M students received nineteenth place in the hardware competition and had one of the best looking bots at the conference! The students also won second place in the graphic t-shirt design competition.

The University of Memphis’ IEEE student branch chair/president had this to say, “I am very proud of our student branch this year. The students worked hard and I am grateful to them for the time and the effort that they put into this organization. I would like to thank all of the professors who help us, Professor Daniel Kohn and Professor Thomas Wyatt our IEEE advisors, thank you. I would also like to give Dr. Deaton, Professor Southall, Dr. Eckstein, STEM, and the IEEE Memphis professional section a special thank you for getting us there and back home.”
