U of M One of Safest Public Institutions in Tennessee
The University of Memphis is committed to providing an environment to support the success of its students. To this end, the University annually ranks as one of the safest universities “anywhere” in Tennessee.
In 2007, the University of Memphis had a 14.3% decrease in reported crimes and had the lowest overall incident rate compared to other schools in the state with more than 5,000 students. While statewide statistics reflect the safety of our campus, we are not content to rely on our statistical success. We continuously strive to enhance campus safety through technology (e.g., the TigerText mass text-messaging notification system), emergency telephones, surveillance towers, web-based digital cameras and other advancements.
University of Memphis students, parents, faculty and staff can take comfort that campus safety and security is a continual concern and that provisions are in place which will help keep our campus one of the safest in the state.
