Engineering Degrees Earn Top Pay
According to a new report from the National Association of Colleges and Employers
(NACE), engineering grads are getting the highest starting salaries. NACE’s Summer
2009 Salary Survey report shows that engineering disciplines account for 12 of the 15 majors getting
the highest starting salary offers.
As writer Julianne Peptione points out in the CNNMoney.com article “Most Lucrative
College Degrees” (July 24, 2009), these top 15 have one thing in common – math skills.
In this article, Ed Koc, director of research at NACE, is quoted “Math is at the crux
of who gets paid. If you have those skills, you are an extremely valuable asset.
We don’t generate enough people like that in this country.”
NACE surveys 200 college career centers to collect its data for the report, and reports
on disciplines in which 30 or more offers have been received.
