Herff Student to Present Research at Department of Energy Research Challenge
For release: October 22, 2010
May, 2010 Engineering Technology graduate Chad Marshall spent the summer working at
Oak Ridge National Laboratory as part of the Volkswagen Distinguished Scholars Program. His research focused on modeling of Smart Cruise Control systems, in which the car’s
speed would be actively controlled to minimize braking and thus optimize fuel efficiency.
His research, “Modeling Smart Cruise Control: Vehicle to Vehicle and Vehicle to Traffic
Light” has been accepted for presentation at the Department of Energy’s Science & Energy Research Challenge (SERCh) at Argonne National Laboratory, November 14-15, 2010.
The 2010 Science and Energy Research Challenge Poster Competition showcases the research
projects of DOE-funded students and interns at the national laboratories. One hundred
student researchers will convene in Argonne, Illinois to present their research in
