Fields of interest

My primary research interest is in the history of childhood in the United States. A second interest is in the history of American families. Most recently I edited the Encylopedia of American Family History and co-edited Family and Society in American History. I was the co-editor of a series of books on American Childhood, including my own Children Between the Wars. I also teach courses on American Indians and World War II, but I do not accept graduate students in those fields as I do no research in those areas.

Courses taught

History of American Childhood (4863/6863), History of the American Family (4831/6831), American Urban History (4871/6871), World War II (3815), Social and Intellectual History of the United States (3863)
