Project Description: The research question is what are the attributes, causal factors, and environment
conditions that lead Facebook users to buy goods and services? We have access to
consumer data from Facebook and need to filter and normalize the data then run statistical
analysis to determine whether various factors come into play in consumer purchasing
decisions, especially in abandonment decisions. For this project, an initial literature
review is needed to compile a list of the factors involved, a proposed research model
will be derived, measurements created, then data will be used to test the model and
a resulting paper written.
Requirements for Student Applicants: The student along with faculty guidance will perform a majority of the tasks above—library
journal search, model creation, measurement creation (as provided in the academic
literature in journals), data cleansing and compilation, statistics runs, and report
write-up.
Starting Date: Fall 2010
Method of Compensation: volunteer with an opportunity to publish, work with a silicon valley start up company,
and learn about social media consumer market potential.
