To meet requirements for certification and initial licensure in Physical Education, students must complete the following requirements:

• Be admitted to the university as a non-degree seeking graduate.
  
  
• Apply for and be admitted to the Teacher Education Program (TEP) and complete student teaching and the student teaching seminar for initial licensure. Application forms for TEP are available online or in Ball Hall room 202.
  
  
• Contact the office of Mary Lanier (Ball Hall 202) to have transcripts evaluated to determine that all general education requirements have been met. Students must have taken courses equivalent to the following:
  
  
  • EDPR 7117 - Life-Span Human Development (3 hours)
  • LEAD 6000 - Foundational Studies: Education, Schooling, and American Society Settings (3 hours)
  • SPED 7000 - Psycho-Educational Problems of Exceptional Children and Adults (3 hours)
  • ID&T 7061 - Media and Technology Utilization (2 hours or test out)
    
    
• Have transcripts evaluated by PETE Unit Head to determine if PETE course requirements have been met. Students will receive credit if they have taken courses equivalent to the following:
  
  
  • PETE 7001 - Applied Scientific Principles in Physical Education (3 hours)
  • PETE 7002 - Curriculum in Physical Education (3 hours)
  • PETE 7003 - Principles of Teaching Individual and Team Sports (3 hours)
  • PETE 7004 - Learner Assessment in School Based Physical Education (3 hours)
  • PETE 7005 - Teaching Strategies in Gymnastics, Dance, and Movement (3 hours)
  • PETE 7006 - Instructional Strategies and Approaches in Physical Education (3 hours)
  • PETE 7007 - Advanced Clinical Practicum (9 hours)
  • PETE 7008 - Professional Seminar (1 hour)
    
    

  Note: First Aid and CPR are required. All students must have current certification at time of graduation.

• After taking all course work, students must pass ETS PRAXIS II exam(s) to meet state requirements.
  
  

  Test booklets for registration can be picked up at the Info Center at the corner of Central and Patterson, or the Testing Center at Brister Hall, or online at ETS.
