Welcome to the Early Childhood Education Program at the University of Memphis! We
are a part of the Instruction and Curriculum Leadership Department in the College
of Education, Health and Human Sciences.
About our Early Childhood Education Programs
The Early Childhood Education programs prepare educators for work with young children
from birth through age eight years. The U of M Early Childhood teacher licensure programs
and advanced Master's degree program for teachers and administrators are nationally
recognized by the National Association for the Education of Young Children as meeting
NAEYC standards.
ECEd teacher licensure programs are offered at both the undergraduate (BSEd) and graduate
(MAT) levels for individuals seeking a license to teach in prekindergarten, kindergarten
and primary grade settings. Advanced ECEd graduate programs include the Master of
Science (MS) degree for teachers and other professionals seeking advanced preparation
in Early Childhood, and the Doctor of Education (EdD) degree for those seeking teaching
and research positions in colleges and universities.
About our Early Childhood Program Graduates
ECEd program graduates are employed as prekindergarten, kindergarten, and primary
grade teachers in public and private schools; as preschool and child care program
directors and teachers; as early childhood coordinators and supervisors in schools;
as early childhood specialists in public and private agencies serving the needs of
young children, and as researchers and faculty in community colleges and universities.
