The Instruction and Curriculum Leadership Department is proud to announce that Dr.
Kandi Hill-Clarke, former Associate Professor of Reading Education at the University
of Memphis, has been promoted to a permanent position with the Tennessee Board of
Regents. Dr. Hill-Clark was promoted from the coordinator for the Tennessee Teaching
Quality Initiative and the Tennessee P-16 Network to the Assistant Vice Chancellor
for Academic Affairs. Dr. Hill-Clarke earned her Doctorate of Education and Master
of Science in Reading Education from the University of Memphis. She earned a Bachelor
of Science from LeMoyne-Owen College. Before Dr. Hill-Clarke joined the faculty at
the University of Memphis, she was a teacher for Shelby County Schools, where she
was awarded the Germantown Community Bank Teacher of the Month Award. While Dr. Hill-Clark
was a member of the faculty here at the University she was Program Coordinator for
the Reading Education Program, chair of the Teaching Committee, faculty representative
for the Tennessee Board of Regents Teaching Quality Task force and the West Tennessee
Representative on the Executive Committee for The Tennessee Association of Colleges
for Teacher Education. While at the University Dr. Hill-Clarke has earned many awards
including the University’s prestigious Thomas W. Briggs Excellence in Teaching Award. Other awards Dr. Hill-Clarke has received includes Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society Honor an Educator Award, the Dean’s Outstanding Teacher Award, the Teaching Excellence Innovation Award-Instruction and Curriculum Leadership Department, and the Igniting Excitement for Academic Excellence Award. Dr. Hill-Clarke’s professional and research interests include early, literacy, integrating
literacy instruction with content area instruction, urban education, and effective
teacher preparation. She has presented at numerous local, regional, and national conferences
and has published in various professional journals.
