Ms. Shawndolyn Sims, Ed.S.
|
Shawndolyn T. Sims earned her Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership
and Policy Studies, her Masters of Arts in Teaching degree with emphasis in Special
Education, and her Bachelors of Arts degree from the University of Memphis.
She is currently an Academic Specialist in the Exceptional Children & Health Department
at Memphis City Schools. Her tenure as an educator has afforded her the opportunity
to serve in various levels of teaching positions that includes areas in Special Education,
Read180, Memphis Fellows Mentor, and Adjunct Instructor.
As a believer in academic excellence, Sims has had success in many educational endeavors
that includes:
- Fund-raising efforts- raised $9,500 for New York City field trip for students with
multiple disabilities 2003 - 2004
- Capital Campaign -raised $13,800 for Disney World Field trip for students with multiple
disabilities learning needs 2004 – 2005
- Nominated for the Disney Teacher Award in 2004 –2005
- Honored by Clique and Macys on Fox13 News during their Teacher Campaign ad in 2004
- Chaired for Special Education department 2004 –2006
- Recognized by MCS District for creating a successful book club for students with diverse
learning needs that increased their reading skills by one academic grade level
- 100% student passing rate on the Gateway Standardized Test 2004 –2010
- Facilitated Praxis workshops on Special Education Content Knowledge Test for the Memphis
City Schools District and the University of Memphis
- Actively participated in the University of Memphis and Memphis City Schools partnership
in the Striving Reading Research
- Memphis Content Literacy Academy Year 1 Scholar
- Memphis Fellows Mentor for Apprentice Special Education teachers
- Graduate Assistant in the Special Education Institute at the Univ. of Memphis 2007-2009
- Adjunct Instructor in ICL Department at the University of Memphis 2008 –2009
- Created an extra-curricular activity club for at-risk students at Raleigh-Egypt High
School
- Inspired the Teacher–Share Forum with Dr. Kriner Cash at Memphis City Schools
