Freight Transportation Leadership Academy: The Only Executive Leadership Course that
Requires a Hard Hat
While others sit behind a monitor reading about freight, the Freight Transportation
Leadership Academy participants come to the University of Memphis and learn how to
keep their businesses moving.
The Freight Transportation Leadership Academy fills an important industry need. The
Academy is a concise, affordable professional primer that teaches leadership skills,
offers hands-on experience and allows participants to gain an understanding of the
freight transportation network.
Through a four-part certification program, the Academy will equip mid-upper level
executives with fundamental leadership skills, a foundation of knowledge in the four
transportation modes and their connectivity, as well as, the opportunity to learn
from and network with other transportation professionals, creating a pipeline for
future industry leaders.
The Academy offers a unique collaboration between academic and industry experts that
will insure participants receive the most up-to-date information on critical issues
facing the transportation industry. The Academy industry experts include former CEO
of CN Railroad, former COO of "K" Line Ocean Carrier, and president of Intermodal
Cartage.
Participants will learn in a state-of-the-art executive leadership classroom. After
participants hear about the industry, they put on their hard hats and safety vests
and take "field trips" to see each mode in action. Located in "North America's Distribution
Center," Memphis is one of the greatest working freight laboratories in the world
with access to every transportation mode. By seeing and understanding the interaction
between the modes, participants can further their knowledge of the freight network
and improve their value to their company.
