International Student Office

The International Student Services (ISS) division of the Center for International Education Services (CIES) serves the 700 F-1 visa holders currently linked to The University of Memphis via the United States Department of Homeland Security's official record keeping system (SEVIS). The ISS Office assists with government compliance for F-1 visa holders and their F-2 visa holding family members, to include mandatory verification documents needed for the Social Security Administration, state drivers license offices, and similar government agencies. The ISS Office also serves as the adjudication agent for Curricular Practical Training, the official signers for travel endorsements on the form I-20, and as the office responsible for issues related to Post Completion Practical Training (CPT), change of status applications, and reinstatement applications.

The ISS Office also provides information related to these topics to F-1 visa holders and to any prospective F-1 applicant who is interested in enrolling as a student at The University of Memphis. The ISS Office is responsible for maintaining University compliance with the United States Student and Exchange Visitor System (SEVIS) which reports directly to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement division of Homeland Security (ICE). Outside of compliance and reporting issues, the ISS Office conducts an international student orientation each semester, coordinate insurance information, and assist student groups with a variety of cultural functions.
