High Speed Computing Environment

Listed below are the specifications of the high speed computing environment at the University of Memphis. For more information, see the High Performance Computing website.

UoM Penguin Computing Cluster Servers

Cluster Servers

  • 122 compute nodes  each with 8 cores (2.5GHz Opteron 2380) and 32 GB of memory
  • 2 compute nodes each with 16 cores (2.3GHz Opteron) and 64 GB of memory
  • 1 compute node with 16 cores (2.3GHz Opteron) and 128 GB of memory
  • All compute nodes connected with InfiniBand
  • CentOS (Red Hat) Linux

Graphics Processing Units (GPU)

  • 4 NVIDIA Tesla S1070 GPUs (total of 3840 1.44GHz cores) connected to 8: 4 x 32 (2.8GHz Xeon) compute nodes
  • Compute nodes connected with InfiniBand
  • CentOS (Red Hat) Linux

Storage

  • 104TB of high performance Panasas storage

Tape Backup

  • Tandberg T40+ StorageLibrary . The library will hold 40 LTO-4 cartridges giving a capacity of 62.4 TB compressed.

Speeds

  • Cluster: 10.7 Teraflops (TFLOPS)
  • GPU: 16 TFLOPS
  • Total System: 26.7 TFLOPS
