Meeting Minutes for March 23, 2004

WebDev Members,

We will have our regular WebDev meeting today (4th Tuesday of month) at 1:00. Instead of meeting in Smith 110 and disrupting student use of the facility, we will be meeting in the Smith 414 training center room.

• In search of new web utilities:
  • web snagger
  • WYSIWYG browser editor
• Network upgrade -- issues exposed by network switch upgrade
• SSL cipher settings
• Search engine status - Verity at over 95% of licensed capacity
• Demo of new IT Impact website demo ( ISIR replacement)

Meeting:

  Network Services upgrading routers, etc... Several web applications working unexpectedly(i.e. Documentum). Mismatchs between servers.
  Any applications that you have running unurually slower than normal before the network swapovers, contact your LSP to get resolutions.
• SSL cipher settings
  What ciphers to include in SSL? Old servers won't communicate with older browsers.
  Test check your secure sites with different browsers and/or versions.
• Search engine status - Verity at over 95% of licensed capacity
  Search engine was by defautl not allowed to search query pages.....

• DB_Table http://wiki.ciaweb.net/index.php?wiki=DB_Table provides a system for you describe your SQL table schema inside a PHP class. Based on that description, creates your tables for you, then automatically validates inserts and updates for you, and creates input forms for you, all based on your described schema. It also lets you build automated "select" statments. DB_Table is database-abstracted and data-type abstracted, and works interchangeably with MySQL, PostgreSQL, MS-SQL, FrontBase, SQLite, and Oracle. On the to-do list are input form rules and input form default values, but those are all that's missing.
• Yawp http://wiki.ciaweb.net/index.php?wiki=Yawp is "Yet Another Web Programming" foundation. This one class (and its config file) will handle authentication for you, set up a DB object, set up a caching object, and provide other convenience methods for securely handling user input. This makes setting up new web applications as easy as issuing "Yawp::start()".
• Yawiki http://wiki.ciaweb.net/index.php?wiki=Yawiki is "Yet Another Wiki". It is built on Yawp, and allows both anonymous and authenticated users, access control lists on a per-wiki and per-page basis, and a page hierarchy system to generate navigational elements.
