Broadcast News
The Broadcast News emphasis prepares students to enter the exciting, fast-paced field
of television news, a genre that continues to be the most popular choice for journalism
consumers.
From video editing, production and studio work to writing, reporting, anchoring and
producing, students learn every aspect of the television news experience. We use real-world
methods and practical training in all our broadcast courses. Students produce a weekly
cable TV news program, Insight, and intern at local television stations. Some elect to work at campus radio station
WUMR.
Broadcast students can join the student chapter of Society of Professional Journalists
and the University of Memphis Association of Black Journalists, two organizations
with close ties to working journalism professionals in the Memphis area.
Graduates from the Department of Journalism's broadcast program have gone on to work
as professional reporters, producers and anchors throughout the region and across
the nation.
