The master's in journalism at The University of Memphis prepares students for leadership
positions in news, advertising and public relations, or to go on to receive their
doctoral degrees. Students can tailor their programs depending on their goals. Please
download our eHandbook for detailed information.
The program is built around four core courses; law, theories, research, and administration.
Students add journalism electives, including courses outside journalism, to complete
their degree. Master's students also choose from among a thesis, project, or coursework-only
options.
Our master's students are diverse and usually include professionals with significant
professional experience along with 21-year-old recent undergraduates from many parts
of the U.S. It is not unusual to have English-speaking students from other parts of
the world in their on-campus or online classes.
