About Prof. Pamela Denney
Prof. Pamela Denney has worked as a writer, editor, photographer and development officer for newspapers, magazines and academic institutions, most recently with Contemporary Media in Memphis, where she still works as the food editor for Memphis magazine.
Before joining Contemporary Media, Prof. Denney was a grant writer and adjunct journalism professor for the University of Memphis. Previously, she worked in Los Angeles for the magazine Natural Foods Merchandiser and for Copley Los Angeles Newspaper as a news editor, wire editor, copy editor and city editor. While working as the city editor at The Outlook in Santa Monica, the daily won the top award for general excellence from the California Newspaper Publishers Association.
In addition to teaching and coordinating the department's media writing curriculum, Prof. Denney is the author of The Food Lovers' Guide to Memphis. She also writes for new media and national print publications, primarily on local restaurants and the culture of Southern food. Although initially a reluctant cook, Prof. Denney embraced her own kitchen after connecting with local farmers through a CSA and planting a vegetable garden in the only sunny spot of her East Memphis yard.
