Below are some of the programs and services we offer throughout the year:
Fall and Spring On-Campus Interview Program We invite employers to Memphis Law in the fall and spring for on-campus interviews.
The program attracts law firms, government agencies, corporations, and public interest
employers. As is the case for first-year students at most ABA-accredited law schools,
you may not participate in the fall OCI program as a first-year student. However,
you are eligible and strongly encouraged to participate in the spring OCI program.
According to the National Association for Legal Career Professionals (NALP), law schools
may not offer career services to first-year law students before November 1 so that
you can focus on your studies. However, we will hold a First-Year Orientation after
November 1 to familiarize you with the fundamentals of job searches and the services
we offer.
Job Postings We maintain an online searchable database of current legal employment opportunities.
The database is contained in Symplicity and is updated on an almost daily basis. It
is accessible 24 hours a day from any computer. In addition, hard copies of all job
postings are made available to you during office hours.
Job Fairs We participate in career fairs throughout the year. If you are interested in getting
exposure to employers outside of Memphis, we encourage you to participate and sign
up for these job fairs.
Mock Interview Program In early fall and early spring, we provide you with the opportunity to conduct a mock
interview with a local attorney. We offer the program in preparation for on-campus
interviews. Our students value the feedback they receive during these mock interview
sessions.
Career Advising We encourage you to seek advice from our staff. Appointments may be made for career
planning and job search advice, resume and cover letter preparation, interview preparation,
tips on salary negotiation, and more.
Judicial Clerkships We partner with the faculty judicial clerkship advisor to present a number of programs
designed to introduce you to judicial clerkships and the process for applying and
obtaining clerkships at the federal and state levels.
Speakers and Programs We hold several workshops throughout the year on resume and cover letter writing,
interviewing and networking skills, job search strategies and other topics. We invite
guests, including attorneys from the private and public sector, to speak on a variety
of legal and career matters. We also work in conjunction with other organizations
such as the Memphis Bar Association. For example, this spring semester we implemented
at Day in the Life Series where attorneys from different practice areas came to the
law school to discuss what it is like to practice in their different areas.
