Congratulations to the Memphis ABA teams on their outstanding showing at the ABA-NAAC
San Francisco Regional February 25-27.
TRACY BRADSHAW and GRACE WHITING are Regional Champions! They narrowly lost to Houston
in their first round, but then went undefeated – beating McGeorge, Oklahoma City,
UC-Hastings and UNLV (the top seed coming out of the preliminary rounds). They now
advance to the National Championships, which are held in Chicago April 8-10. Thirty-three
teams competed in the San Francisco Region. There are six regions and approximately
200 total teams in the competition. Advancing to Chicago puts Tracy and Grace as
one of the top 24 teams in the country, a great accomplishment.
The other team, MATTHEW GABRIEL and JASMINE MCMACKINS, also did very well. They went
undefeated through the preliminary rounds, beating Cincinnati, Seattle and UC-Hastings.
They fell to UC-Davis in a round marred by terrible judging.
Director of Advocacy, Barbara Kritchevsky, was the coach of the ABA teams. Tim Perkins
(’05) travelled with the teams as assistant coach.
The team would not have had such success without support from everyone at the school
and in the community. Members of the local bar, faculty, and students judged practice
rounds in preparation for the Regional Competition.
