Professor Lawrence Pivnick has written and published a new textbook titled– General Sessions Court Practice in Tennessee: Bringing and Defending Civil Lawsuits – June 2009 Edition.

This is a softbound reference book, 220 pages, with index, table of authorities, and forms appendices. The  text discusses the history and structure of General Sessions courts; subject matter jurisdiction, judicial jurisdiction; venue; commencement of actions; issuance, service and return of process; statutes of limitation; General Sessions pleadings; motions; discovery; General Sessions trials, including a discussion of the Tennessee Rules of Evidence; post judgment motions; appeals; certiorari; and enforcement of judgments. There are also chapters on Actions involving Consumer Goods and Disputes between Residential Landlords and Tenants.
