August 25 (noon-12:45, Room 257)

 “Judicial Clerkships and the OSCAR Process”

Particularly helpful to students who are interested in applying for full-time federal clerkships for after graduation (applications for federal clerkships need to be in by the Tuesday after Labor Day!), this seminar will review the opportunities available for students interested in becoming a law clerk for a local, state, or federal judge and looks at the application process, salary ranges, and other useful information.

“Cover Letters, Resumes, Interviewing, and Dressing for Interviewing Success”

Helpful information on how to write an exceptional cover letter and resume as well as information regarding interviewing skills and how to make your best impression through the apparel you select for interviews and the work environment.

“Financial Planning for New Attorneys”: The Shoemaker Company (Pizza Provided)

Many graduates every year choose to use their law degree in pursuit of other professional employment, including financial planning. This seminar will explore some of those opportunities as well as providing students with financial assistance options in practice. (Landon Mills, The Shoemaker Company)

“Job Searching Techniques”

Come get information on how to best network to look for the ideal job.

October 6: Opportunities with the US Department of Justice

PowerPoint presentation on the many opportunities available to students and graduates with the US Department of Justice.

October 13 (noon-12:45)

The Practicalities of Practice: Daily Life as an Attorney

A look into the practical daily life of an attorney in a firm, including relating to clients, billing, writing and research, office practices, discovery, court work, community involvement, and relating with court and clerk personnel.

October 20 (noon-12:45)

Memphis Bar Association/Transactional Practice

A discussion of the opportunities available through the Memphis Bar Association including what it is like to be a lawyer involved in transactional practice, including real estate, tax, probate/estate planning, corporate, and health care.

October 27: Government & Public Interest (Noon-12:45)

A high percentage of graduates choose government or public interest law out of law school. This seminar will look at daily life as an attorney in these areas.

November 3: Personal Injury, Workers’ Compensation, Malpractice (Noon-12:45)

The Tennessee market has a high percentage of personal injury lawyers. This seminar will show you what to expect in a firm dedicated to this practice area.
