Why did you choose Higher and Adult Education?
I chose a degree in Higher and Adult education for many reasons. Personally, my college
experience was a very rewarding time in my life. I grew intellectually and learned
lifelong skills through interactions with faculty and saturating myself into the campus
culture. My desire to be a college administrator was driven by the desire to create
such enriching college experiences for others.
How did this degree prepare you or improve your preparation for your current role?
The degree prepared me with a theoretical framework for administration. My current
role calls for a strong understanding of student development theory as well as an
appreciation of current administrative practices. My graduate studies provided me
the opportunity to also study relevant research and how it relates to practical daily
application.
What impact has your degree had on your life or career?
The completion of the doctorate provided me with not only a strong educational background
but the credentials to be successful within the college setting. I am fortunate to
have worked with such great faculty who not only challenged me but supported my development
as a professional within higher education.
