The Higher Education concentration is designed for individuals seeking doctoral-level
preparation primarily for mid- and senior-level administrative positions in higher
education institutions, or higher education-related agencies, boards, and commissions.
The Program of Studies provides an overview of required coursework for completion of the degree. Many students
in our program have already established successful careers. Therefore, classes are
scheduled in the evenings, weekends, or online to meet the needs of the working adult.
If you were interested in the Ed.D. with an Organizational Leadership concentration,
our proposal is still pending review and action by TBR.
Residency
All doctoral students must complete a residency requirement. Higher and Adult Education
majors have several options within the department. Please review the information in
the Doctoral Residency Plan Description. Your academic advisor will provide additional details regarding this project.
Doctoral Comprehensive Examinations
Upon completion of all courses, or with one course remaining, students take doctoral
comprehensive exams. Please review the department’s policy (insert link) for more
complete information.
Dissertation
The dissertation is expected to provide an intensive analysis of a specific problem/issue
in higher education. The Graduate School’s Thesis/Dissertation Guide (insert link)
provides a detailed description of specific requirements for completion of the dissertation.
