The Office of Student Leadership & Involvement presents a new initiative for student
leaders: the Professional Mentor Program. Applications Now Available.
The Professional Mentor Program matches a select group of highly motivated students
with community leaders and provides an opportunity for both the student and community
leader to explore leadership education led by the Student Leadership & Involvement
staff. The goal of the Professional Mentor Program is to prepare students to be future leaders
through leadership development, to build community within the city of Memphis, and
to facilitate the development of a support network with community leaders.
Professional Mentor Program Components:
- Three month program
- Bi-weekly communication between mentor and protégé
- Read assigned leadership book and/or article
- Shadowing opportunities (1/2 day)
- One on one informal meetings
Requirements:
- Must have a 2.75 GPA
- Attend Friday sessions
- Mentors set aside a day for protégés to job shadow
- Read leadership topics and discuss relevance of topics to your lives
- Mentor conduct mock interview with protégé for future interviews
We are now accepting applications for the Spring semester. A resume should be submitted with your application. Prior to beginning the application,
please make sure that you have the scheduled meeting times available (see below.)
Selections will be made from the application and selected participants will be informed
shortly thereafter. Please provide an email or phone number that you will check regularly.
Spring 2012 Schedule
- Friday, February 17 in the University Center River Room (UC 300) from 12-2:30
- Friday, March 16 in the University Center Shelby Room (UC 342) from 12-2:30
- Friday, April 20 in the University Center (room to be announced) from 12-2:30
