Personal Development
Tiger PAWS supports the development of a well-balanced lifestyle for student-athletes,
encouraging emotional well-being, personal growth and decision-making skills. Personal
Development activities include guest speakers, one-on-one sessions, seminars and activities.
They are scheduled based on individual and team needs as well as special events planned
by the Student Development Coordinator.

There are many aspects of the PAWS Program that play into the personal development
of student-athletes. Community Service, leadership qualities and team work building
are just some examples of how personal development can be applied to each student-athlete.
The PAWS Program has identified some of the key aspects of student-athlete personal
growth:
Leadership
The Tiger PAWS program believes that Leadership Development is extremely important
to the growth of student-athletes while at the University of Memphis. While freshman,
student-athletes are introduced to the idea that each person has different leadership
qualities and that all of these qualities may be applied to their sport, career, and
future. By having student-athletes understand this important fact, we are able to
build upon that foundation and produce successful leaders in every walk of life.
Team Leadership Council: Each month the Team Leadership Council meets to improve
their personal leadership skills and be able to apply them to their team. This aspect
of the leadership program is designed for team captains and others that wish to take
on a role as a team leader.
The PAWS Program also supports the Office of Student Leadership and Involvement at the University of Memphis. They provide an outstanding additional resource to
our student-athletes who want to continue their growth in leadership qualities!
Personal Development Coaching
The Tiger PAWS program, Athletic Department and CAAS have teamed with Kevin "Rev Kev"
Nathaniel to provide personal development education for individual student-athletes
as well as entire teams. Kevin is a great addition to the growth of the personal
development aspect of the program and provides the support needed to continue student-athlete
success through his C.H.A.M.P. Factor. See below for Kevin's contact info!

True Blue Choices
True Blue Choices was introduced to the University of Memphis in the Fall semester of 2010. True Blue
Choices is a grant funded by the NCAA to help educate the entire student body at Memphis.
With the student-athletes being the "face" of this campaign, they are even more encouraged
to make responsible decisions and provide a good example for the entire campus community.

Respect: Civility at the University of Memphis
Respect: Step Up! Civility Campaign
Various departments at UM, including PAWS and Athletics, have come together this year
to promote a respectful and civil environment for everyone on campus. The Civility Campaign encourages students, faculty and staff to commit to taking responsibility of their
behaviors, attitudes and actions.
