Criteria and Guidelines for Nominations for the
Barbara K. Lipman Award for Excellence
in Early Childhood Education

The recipient of this prestigious award will be a national or international early childhood education professional who has devoted his or her career to the profession and who has significantly influenced early childhood education through the following:

Eligibility Criteria

  • Nominations are open to national and international early childhood education professionals who have significantly influenced early childhood education or child growth and development

  • Work should encompass children age birth to eight and may include (but are not limited to) investigations of:

    • How children grow and learn
    • Psychomotor development of young children
    • Approaches to the teaching of young children
    • Interventions for learning enhancement and environments
    • Social influences on early childhood
    • Early childhood teacher training
    • Administration or leadership in early childhood education

  • Supporting Materials

    • Brief statement of accomplishments in the field of early childhood education, significant contributions to the field, and a reflection on current trends and issues in the field.
    • Resume or Curriculum vitae, including any major awards received
    • Summary of publications in journals, books, book chapters, peer-reviewed articles, presentations, etc.
    • Letters of recommendation from three sources (both internal and external to the organization for which the nominee is affiliated).
