Arts & Sciences Join the chapter for its Outstanding Alumni Awards Thursday, Oct. 14, at 6 p.m. in
the University Center Ballroom. The honorees are Leigh Baim Mansberg (BA ’91, MAT
’92), English Department chair and Katherine Neely Chair of Excellence at St. Mary’s
Episcopal School; Robert R. Milner (BS ’67), industrial real estate broker and logistics
consultant with Wilkinson and Snowden Inc.; Dr. Larry Robinson (BA ’79), assistant
secretary of commerce for oceans and atmosphere at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration; and Edward L. Stanton III (BA ’94, JD ’97), U.S. attorney for the

AUSP The chapter enjoyed a Mid-Summer Mixer in Downtown Memphis in July. Chapter members
enjoyed mixing and mingling with fellow alumni and community peers.
Band The 2010 Bandmasters Championships will be held Saturday, Oct. 23, at Liberty Bowl

Business & Economics The chapter will host its annual Alumni Day Wednesday, Nov. 3, at the University of

Engineering The chapter hosted a professional development seminar for Memphis area engineers in
August. The topic was “Compliance with Environmental Air Quality Regulations” and
was presented by Bob Rogers (BSME ’82, MS ’89), manager of pollution control for the
Memphis and Shelby County Health Department.
FAM Future Alumni of Memphis enjoyed spending time with the Young Alumni Committee at
a Tiger baseball game in May at FedEx Park. Students mingled with alumni while enjoying
burgers and hot dogs. FAM, the Association’s new student group, attended each New
Student Orientation throughout the summer to promote awareness and membership. FAM
is the fastest-growing paid student organization at the U of M.
Frosh Camp In July the Alumni Association’s newest club, the Frosh Camp Alumni Club, provided
gifts and supplies to current Frosh Camp counselors through the “Grandparents” program.
Alumni donated items that counselors normally pay for out of pocket and “spoiled”
the students with additional treats and special surprises.
Half Century Club The Half Century Club and Alumni Association will host the Class of 1960 Golden Reunion
Friday, Oct. 29. Activities throughout the day will include brunch at the home of
U of M President Shirley Raines, a tour of the U of M campus and a Golden Reception

Journalism The club will host its Mentorship Mixer Tuesday, Sept. 21, at 5:30 p.m. at the Alumni
Center. Join the Journalism Alumni Club to celebrate its Outstanding Alumni Awards
Thursday, Nov. 4, at 6 p.m. at the University of Memphis Holiday Inn. The 2010 honorees
are Jesse Bunn (BA ’74), director of marketplace communications at FedEx Corp.; John
Koski (BA ’88), vice president and general manager of WHBQ-TV Fox 13; and Candace
“Candy” Justice (MA ’92), assistant professor of journalism at the U of M and general

Law The chapter hosted its annual student, faculty and board reception at former chapter
president Richard Carter’s home in April. Several members of the chapter’s board participated
in the Admitted Student Open House in April to welcome incoming law students. Carter
(JD ’80) read names of graduates at the commencement ceremony in May. In July, the
chapter hosted a CLE workshop on criminal law at the Law School, followed by a reception.
Presenters at the CLE were Leslie Ballin (JD ’77), William Massey (JD ’81), Steve
Mulroy and Brian Faughnan (JD ’98).
The Law School Scholarship Luncheon will be held Tuesday, Oct. 19. The event will
honor donors and student scholarship recipients. The Law Alumni Chapter Judicial Reception
will be Wednesday, Nov. 3. Both events will be in the Cecil C. Humphreys Law Reception

Luther C. McClellan The chapter held a meeting and social event in May. Topics discussed included upcoming
events and Homecoming. The chapter also met in July for a social event.
Nursing The Loewenberg School of Nursing Alumni Chapter hosted its biannual Career Fair in
April in the University Center. More than 55 graduating seniors presented their final
projects.
Theatre & Dance The club welcomed incoming freshmen in August with a luncheon during the department’s
orientation. Parents, faculty, staff and students were able to meet club members and
alumni staff. The club’s Big Red Celebration will honor Gloria Baxter and Susan Chrietzberg
Saturday, Sept. 4, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 5, at 11:30 a.m. at the Big Red Theatre
in the Theatre & Dance Building. Both professors retired Dec. 31, 2008, and continue
to teach as professors emeriti until spring 2012. For more information, or to RSVP,

UMAR U of M Association of Retirees members enjoyed their annual spring/summer picnic in
May at the Meeman Biological Field Station in Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park. The
group enjoyed a potluck lunch, raffle and musical entertainment throughout the afternoon.
In June, the group hosted a Mix and Match event with a trip to the new WKNO facilities
in Cordova and lunch with featured speaker Melissa Peterson, editor of Edible Memphis magazine. Members met in July to discuss their most recent Book Club Discussion Group
work. In August they had a four-course wine dinner.
University College The chapter hosted an awards reception in May to honor Mary Brignole (BPS ’99, MS
’03), academic adviser in the U of M’s Academic Counseling Center and past president
of the University College Alumni Chapter, as the Outstanding Alumni Award recipient
for 2010 and Susanne Darnell (MA ’70), former interim dean and former associate dean
of the University College, as the winner of the Outstanding Service Award for 2010.
Young Alumni Committee The Young Alumni Committee, in collaboration with the Future Alumni of Memphis, hosted
a spring cookout at a May baseball game at FedEx Park. The group’s annual True Blue
5K will be Friday, Nov. 5, on the U of M campus. For more information, contact Ryan

New York The New York Alumni Club joined with other C-USA alumni clubs for a mixer in April
and enjoyed friendly rivalry and socializing.
St. Louis St. Louis Alumni Club leadership met with Alumni staff members in July.
Washington, D.C. The Washington, D.C., Alumni Club hosted a watch party while the Tigers took on Houston
in January.
