Arts and Sciences

AUSP

Band

Business and Economics

Join the chapter for its 16th annual Alumni Day luncheon Wednesday, Oct. 29, at the University Holiday Inn. The keynote speaker will be Dr. William Evans, CEO of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Wei Chen (MBA ’98), logistics entrepreneur, is Entrepreneur of the Year. Dan Palmer (BBA ’66), former CEO of Concord EFS Inc., is the 2008 Outstanding Alumnus, and David Sullivan (BS ’64), chair of Sullivan Investments and a member of the board of Choice Hotels, is the recipient of the Distinguished Friend of the College award. Fraternity Alumni Advisory Council

Half Century Club

Journalism Club

The Journalism Alumni Club is offering interested journalism graduates the opportunity to become a part of their Journalism Mentorship Program. This program will provide students with the guidance needed when transitioning from the classroom to the business world. Law

On Aug. 16, the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law Alumni Chapter will host its annual Law Dinner at the University Holiday Inn. John Stokes will be honored as the 2008 Friend of the Law School while Sen. Lamar Alexander is the keynote speaker. Walter Bailey, W. Emmett Marston, John Thomason and Lee Winchester will be honored as the 2008 Pillars of Excellence.

Luther C. McClellan

In April, LCM co-sponsored a series of events marking the 40th anniversary of the death of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The events included forums on “The Man and the Mission” and “Untold Chapters of the Memphis Movement,” and a program featuring keynote speaker Angela Davis.

The celebration closed with a reception honoring the Memphis State 109 and Luther C. McClellan, the U of M’s first African-American graduate.

Music Society

The U of M Alumni Association is putting out a call to interested alumni in the Birmingham area. The Tigers come to town Oct. 2 to take on the UAB Blazers. This would be a wonderful opportunity to unite our Birmingham-area alumni and catch some True Blue Tiger football. Boston/New England

The Boston/New England Club held an alumni cookout in June at the home of club president Bob Canfield (BAA ’59). Tiger friends, fans and alumni throughout the New England area enjoyed a relaxing afternoon of food, fun and fellowship.

Charlotte

Denver alumni and friends attended a Colorado Rockies game in June. Eastern Pennsylvania

New Orleans

Texas Expansion

The Alumni Association is putting out the call to interested alumni in the San Antonio/Austin area. The Tigers’ Final Four run in Texas set the area abuzz, and we are hoping to form a club in the fall. Washington, D.C.

The D.C. Club is recovering from a frantic Tiger basketball season and is gearing up for Tiger football.  In June, club president Terry Rhea (BA ’00) attended a brainstorming session with other Conference USA schools with alumni clubs in the D.C. area to coordinate events during the upcoming football season. To get involved with the D.C.
