Dr. Robert Taylor received his undergraduate degree in 1970 from Rollins College in Behavioral Science and completed his doctorate at LSU in 1979 in Social/Industrial Psychology. After four years of teaching in and directing an I/O Psychology program at the University of West Florida, he transitioned into Management with a one year appointment back at LSU. He joined the FCBE faculty at The University of Memphis in 1983 as an Assistant Professor of Management, teaching in the Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management areas. He is now a tenured Associate Professor and Department Chair of Management as well as Director of the department's Ph.D. program. He teaches in the Executive MBA, International MBA and Ph.D. programs and conducts research in a variety of areas including leader-subordinate relationships, empowerment, organizational citizenship behavior, and trust. Bob has published in numerous management journals and in 1995 published his only book, a text titled Management: Comprehension, Analysis, and Application. In 1992 Bob received the prestigious UofM Distinguished Teaching Award. His teaching has lead to many training and consulting opportunities working with such well-known organizations as International Paper, Kroger, MS Carriers, Federal Express, Buckman Labs, Holiday Inns, LeBonheur and Crittenden Hospitals, and Memphis Light Gas and Water. Recently Bob initiated a new program called the MILE (Memphis Institute for Leadership Education) Leadership Mentoring Program, whereby junior and senior students are paired with local business people who serve for a year as mentors to the student proteges.
