Memorial Field Track Renovation Fund

The Memorial Track and Field at the University of Memphis has been serving the campus community since the 1920's when it was established east of the first men's dorm, Scates Hall. The track surface has been improved over the years from a cinder base to asphalt over gravel. Due to surface deterioration and very poor drainage at the perimeter curb, the university invested $140,000 in 2013 to repair the sub-base of the track and completely resurface the facility with new asphalt. As a recreation running and walking track, the current surface can be improved by installing a 13 millimeter overlay of polyurethane bound permeable EPDM full depth color rubber basemat. The anticipated cost of the installation is $150,000. The University is committed to covering two-thirds of the cost if the remaining one-third can be raised through private funds. The new surface will provide more resiliency and offer a more comfortable, long lasting surface for recreation, education and community users of the track.
