U.S. News & World Report Ranks 19 UofM Graduate Programs Among Nation's Best

April 5, 2018 - The University of Memphis has 19 academic programs currently ranked nationally by U.S. News & World Report in its Best Graduate Schools, including three in the Top 25: Audiology (No. 17), Rehabilitation Counseling (No. 21) and Speech-Language Pathology (No. 24).

The other ranked programs are: Health Care Management (No. 47), Social Work (No. 88), Clinical Psychology (No. 102), Earth Sciences (No. 111), Fine Arts (No. 114), Math (No. 127), English (No. 133), History (No. 134), Public Affairs (No. 135), Law (No. 137), Engineering (No. 145), Psychology (No. 148), Education (153), Nursing (No. 155), Part-Time MBA (No. 163) and Biological Sciences (No. 190).

Several programs showed dramatic improvement in the rankings, including Nursing, which rose 54 spots from No. 209 to No. 155. "It is encouraging to see so many of our graduate programs ranked by U.S. News," said UofM President M. David Rudd. "This is a testament to the hard work of our faculty, staff and students. It is great to see such well-deserved progress."

The Master of Social Work program jumped from No. 123 to No. 88. There are 285 accredited and candidacy MSW programs in the United States, according to the Council on Social Work Education. The new ranking places the UofM's MSW program second in the State of Tennessee, tied for first in the Mid-South and in the top third of MSW programs nationally.

"We have known for many years that the University of Memphis has an excellent MSW program with outstanding faculty and students," said Dr. Susan Neely-Barnes, chair of the Department of Social Work. "We are pleased to receive recognition for our tradition of excellence."

In January, the UofM had five online academic programs ranked by U.S. News & World Report, including Nursing, which is ranked 15th nationally after climbing 86 spots in the rankings. The University currently offers five of the eight online programs which are ranked by U.S. News, and all are ranked: Nursing, No. 15; Criminal Justice (graduate), No. 51-67; MBA, No. 89; bachelor's programs, No. 125; and Education (graduate), No. 150.
