University of Memphis Will Provide Transportation to Nashville for Spelling Bee Participants

February 26, 2018 - The University of Memphis will provide transportation for Shelby County participants in the Regional Spelling Bee in Nashville on March 10.

Motor coach transportation will be provided for participants and a family member or other responsible adult at no charge. Seats are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis until March 7. Register online at https://securelb.imodules.com/s/1728/15/index.aspx?sid=1728&gid=2&pgid=1467&cid=2614.

All students must have a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian to ride the bus. They must be accepted to the spelling bee before they request transportation.

The bus will load at 6:30 a.m. and leave at 7 a.m. on March 10 from the Zach Curlin parking garage.

The UofM and the Tennessee Titans are partnering to present the spelling bee. The event will be held at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. Registration begins at 11 a.m. with the spelling bee following at noon. For more information, email raday@memphis.edu or call 901.678.3119.

"We feel it is important for students in Shelby County to have a chance to compete in the Regional Spelling Bee and serve as our local representatives," said UofM President M. David Rudd. "With the spelling bee moving from Memphis to Nashville, the University of Memphis wanted to provide transportation for those who do not have the ability to get there on their own. We take great pride in this, and look forward to partnering with the Titans to bring the bee back to Memphis next year."

The winner of each regional spelling be will receive an expenses-paid trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.
