The University of Memphis Wind Ensemble will perform in concert at the U of M’s Lambuth
Campus on Friday, April 20. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Hamilton Performing
Arts Center. It is free and open to the public.
Dr. Albert T. Nguyen, director of bands with the University’s Rudi E. Scheidt School
of Music, said the hour-long concert will present a range of works, from standard
band pieces to the creations of new composers. The program will include:
Overture to Candide, composed by Leonard Bernstein; transcribed for band by Clare Grundman;
Colonial Song, by Percy Grainger;
Children’s March, also by Grainger;
Give Us This Day, a short symphony for wind ensemble, by David Maslanka; and
Asphalt Cocktail, by John Mackey.
