The Pinch, the nationally acclaimed literary journal of the University of Memphis, is celebrating the release of its spring 2013 issue. The Pinch release party will be held Saturday, April 20, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the David Perry Smith Gallery, 703 New York Street.

The public is invited to this free event to join authors and artists for an evening of readings and refreshments.

Founded in 1980, The Pinch is one of the oldest literary journals in the country. It publishes fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction and visual art twice a year and is distributed nationwide. The journal has published the work of many noted contemporary writers, including Bobbie Ann Mason, Lee Sharkey, Floyd Skloot, Dinty W. Moore and Ander Monson. Recent work from The Pinch has been anthologized in The Best American Non-required Reading.

The Pinch’s literary awards in poetry, fiction and creative nonfiction, which grant $3,000 in prizes, have been judged by respected writers like Rick Bass, Jeffrey McDaniel, Allen Weir and Beth Ann Fennelly.
