New students at the University of Memphis will start their college adventure this year with music, school spirit, encouragement, and information. It’s all part of New Student Convocation, set for Monday, Aug. 29, at 2 p.m. in the Michael D. Rose Theatre and the University Center Theatre.

Freshmen and transfer students will learn about U of M traditions and get advice on how to be successful in college. Alumni and current students will offer their strategies on how students can achieve their ultimate goal – graduation.

This year will mark the first time that New Student Convocation will be streamed live over the Internet.  To view it live, visit http://www.memphis.edu/newstudentconvocation.

Speakers will include University officials such as President Shirley Raines, Provost Ralph Faudree, and Vice President for Student Affairs Rosie Phillips Bingham, as well as former Tiger and NBA star Elliot Perry.

Entertainment will be provided by the U of M Pep Band and Pouncer, the Tiger mascot.

A Student Information Fair on the Student Plaza will follow the convocation. The event will offer information on University departments and student organizations.
