Students who are new to the University of Memphis are invited to Tiger Training at
New Student Convocation on the first day of class, Monday, Aug. 26. The annual event
is set for 2:30 p.m. in the Michael D. Rose Theatre. At Tiger Training, the students
will get insider tips from administrators, faculty, staff and current students on
how to “Walk Like a Tiger, Talk Like a Tiger and Act Like a Tiger.”
Freshman and transfer students will learn about U of M traditions and get advice on
how to be successful in college. Alumni and current students will offer their strategies
on how students can achieve their ultimate goal – earning a degree.
Speakers include interim President R. Brad Martin, Provost David Rudd and Vice President
for Student Affairs Rosie Phillips Bingham, as well as Tiger head football coach Justin
Entertainment will be provided by the U of M Pep Band, spirit squad members and Tiger
mascot Pouncer. TOM III, the University’s official live Bengal tiger mascot, also
will make a special appearance at the event.
As students exit the Rose Theatre, they will pose with hundreds of other new Tigers
for a commemorative photo. A Student Involvement Fair for all U of M students will
be held from 3:15 to 5:15 p.m. on the UC Alumni Mall. The fair will offer information
about University departments and student organizations.
All U of M students, faculty and staff are invited to the True Blue Pep Rally, sponsored
by the Alumni Association, which will begin at 4 p.m. on the UC Alumni Mall. Students
unable to attend Tiger Training can watch the live Internet feed at memphis.edu/newstudentconvocation.
