The Division of Social Work at the University of Memphis will offer a Master of Social
Work degree program beginning January 2011. Applications are now being accepted.
“We are excited to take the next step as a community partner by providing additional
master social workers trained to serve and promote the healthy development of children
and families in the Mid-South,” said Dr. Jerome Blakemore, director of the Division
of Social Work. “Our goal is to provide comprehensive skills and knowledge toenhance
clinical insight, leadership, and a capacity for scientific inquiry.”
The new graduate program will build not only on the University’s current bachelor
of arts degree in Social Work, but on a long tradition of service-based learning at
the U of M. It also furthers a partnership with the state of Tennessee to train future
generations of advanced social work practitioners who are prepared to provide leadership
in their local communities as well as regionally, nationally, and internationally.
