For release: December 4, 2012 For press information, contact Curt Guenther, 901-678-2843
Students who have applied for admission to the University of Memphis for the fall
of 2013 are currently being evaluated for scholarship eligibility. A variety of scholarships
are funded by the University and by private donors. In addition to academic scholarships,
there are scholarships for adult students, community college graduates, transfer students,
departmental scholarships, and scholarships for first-generation college students.
Scholarships are awarded based on information submitted on the University of Memphis
application for admission. A separate scholarship application is not required unless noted. The priority deadline for admitted students to the University of Memphis for scholarship
consideration is Feb. 1.
All University of Memphis first-time freshman scholarship awards are based on a combination
of ACT/SAT scores and cumulative high school grade point average. These scholarships
are four-year, renewable awards requiring full-time enrollment. Early application
to the University of Memphis is strongly encouraged, because scholarship awards are
limited.
Applicants for any type of financial aid must submit the Free Application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.gov.. Financial assistance also is provided through grants, loans and employment. The
University operates two programs of student employment: the Federal Work-Study Program
and a regular student worker program.
Students eligible for the State of Tennessee HOPE Scholarship Program (Lottery Scholarship)
must complete the FAFSA as specified by the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation.
More information on the program is available at the HOPE Lottery Scholarship website,
www.tn.gov/CollegePays.
In the fall of 2012, 631 academic scholarships worth more than $1.4 million were awarded
to 26 percent of the freshmen class. More than $200 million in other financial aid
is awarded annually.
