February 20, 2014 - The Society of Female Transportation Professionals will host the Blue Pump Gala Thursday, March 6, at the University of Memphis Holiday Inn Shelby Ballroom. A reception will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., followed by the dinner and program.

The keynote speaker will be Susan Kurland, assistant secretary for Aviation and International Affairs for the U.S. Department of Transportation. Kurland leads the APEC Women in Transportation initiative, which focuses on identifying barriers and best practices to including women in the transportation workforce, as well as strategies for enhanced career opportunities in four key areas: education, access to jobs, retention and leadership development.

The gala is part of the University's Women's History Month celebration and is the Society's inaugural scholarship fundraising event. Funds collected will create scholarships for female U of M students who are pursuing degrees in transportation and logistics.

The event is open to both men and women. Guests are asked to wear blue shoes. There will be a photography station so attendees can have photos of their blue shoes taken and share them.

Tickets are $100 per person and include the reception, dinner and a donation to the scholarship fund. Event and table sponsorship opportunities are available.

Registration is available online at http://memphis.edu/ifti.

The Society of Female Transportation Professionals serves as a networking organization for women in the tri-state area working in the transportation industry. The Society connects current and future transportation events, speakers and activities.
