Hooks Institute Will Host Join Hands for Change Benefit March 1
January 18, 2018 - The Benjamin L. Hooks Institute for Social Change will hold its annual Join Hands for Change Benefit March 1 from 6-9 p.m. at the Holiday Inn at the University of Memphis, 3700 Central Ave.
The Join Hands for Change Benefit will be hosted by Memphis radio personality Stan Bell, a native Memphian who has grown into one of Memphis' most energetic radio personalities over his 31-year career. A recipient of the prestigious Marconi Award for Broadcast Excellence, Bell can be heard weekdays from 3-7 p.m. on V 101.1 and 1070 WDIA.
The evening will include food stations, recognition of student and community stars, and entertainment by Bill Hurd and Ensemble. Hurd is a nationally renowned jazz saxophonist and recording artist. He has recorded with music legends Maurice White, Kirk Whalum and Isaac Hayes.
Proceeds from the 2018 Join Hands for Change Donor Benefit help fund Hooks Institute programs such as the Hooks African American Male Initiative, which focuses on increasing the retention and graduation rates of African-American males attending the University of Memphis.
